Her latest adventure is writing DC Comics’ newest Green Lantern, Sojourner “Jo” Mullein of Far Sector. For over a decade Jemisin has been an advocate for greater inclusivity in fiction and in the industry, and has been published as a leading genre critic in the New York Times and elsewhere.

The broad appeal of her vision is clear here, too: the Inheritance Trilogy received nominations for SFF’s coveted Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy awards, as well as winning Japan’s Sense of Gender Award. Jemisin won Hugo Best Novel awards for all three books of her Broken Earth series. Jemisin continues to dazzle us with the treacherous machinations of a pantheon of rivals-the fascinating, maddeningly self-centered deities introduced in the first book of her genre-redefining Inheritance Trilogy. For the gods hold ancient grudges and commit horrific crimes, letting mortals suffer the consequences. When a derelict god shows up on a neighborhood muckheap Oree takes him under her wing, an act which entangles her in a cosmic feud thousands of years old. She paints landscapes by touch and scent, and uses a staff to navigate Shadow, the city built at the roots of the giant tree whose branches cradle the palace of the all-powerful Arameri dynasty.
